Four WHSC boats in action at 3 events this weekend
Fools Gold spent the past week in Cowes competing in the IRC European championships and Commodores Cup – after an eventful last race on Saturday, they narrowly missed a podium finish in the championships, but took 3rd place in the Commodores cup.
Congratulations to Rob (McConnell) and his crew of Roy Darrer, Lisa Tait,
Graham Curran, Doug Power, Brian O’Donnell and Rob Kerley.
Commodore Rene yesterday flew to the UK to collect Fools Gold from Cowes to deliver her to The Hague where she will compete at the Off shore sailing worlds from 12th to 20th July. Read all about it and follow the action on www.offshoresailingworlds2018.com
Rene will skipper the boat across the English channel and into his port of origin, Den Haag. He is accompanied by his able crew of Bill McConnell, Jimmy and Declan Quinlan. Safe and enjoyable passage to them.
Our youngest helms this weekend, Isabelle Passberger and Mia McConnell were in action at Howth Yacht Club competing in the regatta fleet at the Leinster Optimist Championships. The girls sailed all 6 races – 2 on Saturday and 4 on Sunday – in extremely challenging conditions, gusts up to 28 knots! They both said they really enjoyed it and learned loads. Well done to both of you.
Geoff Power traveled to Royal Cork Yacht Club to compete at the Laser Connaughts – no that’s not a misprint, sailing associations boundaries can be quite fluid! Six races sailed over 2 days in very testing conditions, he’s very happy with his 3rd placing – narrowly missing 2nd by just 1 point. Well done!
