In pictures: Inaugural Paddlers Outing – and a second trip planned for this weekend

The inaugural outing of the new WHSC Paddling and Kayaking group was a huge success last weekend.

According to Mary Tritschler, the group was lucky enough to see “dolphins, guillemots, a couple of cormorants plus a gannet or two and astonishing cliffscapes, sun, calm seas and fresh air….In good company!”

Rib support was provided by Commodore Roy Power, and a huge thank you to Donncha O’Gradaigh for getting the group set up.

The kayakers covered an impressive 9.5km.

It went down so well they’re doing it all again this weekend, Sunday morning, July 25 2021.

Organiser Donncha says the tide won’t be as convenient “but we should still be able to visit caves en route if swell stays quiet for the next few days. So assemble at slipway at 9am, under way at 9.30… anyone planning a swap or breakfast with a walking partner at Portally should arrange 1100 for 1130 departure from the Portally beach. Estimated return to slip 1230-1300.”

Please indicate your interest with a thumbs up in the WhatsApp group, and watch out for the Covid form. Club members have kayaks available to both borrow free of charge and rent, so if you’d like to participate but don’t yet have your own kayak (or want to bring someone along), email and we’ll put you in touch.

All participants must sign the form in order to arrange numbers and ensure compliance with the rules and safe paddling for everyone.

Thanks to Fintan Stanley and Roy Power for the photos.
