How well do you know Dunmore East? Check out this brilliant guide in aid of RNLI by two WHSC members

How well do you think you know Dunmore East? Probably not as well as Anna Brazil and Polly Rogers, two enterprising WHSC junior members and keen sailors, who spent some of their time in lockdown working on a brilliant, much-needed, and utterly unique visitors’ guide to Dunmore East.

The comprehensive guide, which covers things to do in the area, clubs, beaches, walks, accommodation, shops and services, was written and researched by talented writer,15-year-old Anna, and illustrated by 16-year-old accomplished artist Polly, with the aim of raising much-needed funds for the RNLI.

The pocket guide even offers a brief history of the RNLI, as well as an invaluable and beautifully sketched map. The project stems from the girls’ love of Dunmore East, all things water-related and a long-standing interest in the RNLI – in Anna’s case, inspired by her grandfather Donie Brazil’s tales of rescues over the years (reputedly including one seasick granny during the Tramore Bay Races!)

The Nooks and Crooks of Dunmore East guide will be available from Monday July 26 2021 in all local shops, hotels and clubs, and you’re invited to make a donation to the RNLI wherever you pick up a copy. One hundred percent of the proceeds go to the organisation.

The official launch of the guide will coincide with the annual RNLI bake sale in the WHSC Sailing Club next Saturday, August 31, from 10.30am. Anna will be manning a table there, so you can collect a copy – which you may want to frame – and make a donation.

Many thanks to Bill Deevy of RNLI Dunmore East who helped out with the printing and graphic design, and to Adele in his office.

And you can see more of Polly’s art, which is already well known and loved by WHSC members who have been lucky enough to get framed prints or cards over the years, on her Facebook page and her Instagram.
