Congratulations to WHSC sailors who competed in Oppie Munsters

Report by Nicola Harris

Nine WHSC sailors (Arthur, Donnacha, Grace, Jack, Kate, Lily, Nathan, Oisin & Rory) travelled to Monkstown for the Optimist Munsters on the 2nd & 3rd October.

With a lot of wind forecast, I think the parents left ashore were nervous and apprehensive, but the sailors were more than capable.

With three long races both days, all these young sailors showed how much they have improved over the summer through coaching and racing, and they were well able to compete with other clubs at this level. On the second day, the wind was 15-20 knots across the course with some great performances from our Junior fleet. Nathan, Lily & Jack finished 15th, 18th and 20th in a fleet of 50 in the last race.

Supported by Dougie Elmes and Stuart Harris on the water for coaching and guidance, with huge assistance onshore from all parents.

Three sailors were top five in their fleets — Rory, Grace and Nathan — with Rory moving up to Silver fleet in 2022. A great way to wrap up the IODAI events for 2021 with some sailors heading to RCYC for October racing and others heading to Malahide for Hallowe’en training.
