Live music, boats, a beautiful destination and a good cause: Rib trip planned for Friday July 30th

A group from WHSC is leaving on ribs on Friday morning July 30th at 10am for a live music event at the beautiful destination of Mt Congreve.

The cafe in the gardens is open and you’re invited to bring your own beer and wine.

The cost is €5 euro a head to cover live music. If you don’t have access to a rib, and would like to join by road for lunch and a bit of craic, you’re very welcome.

All proceeds from the whip-around for live music will go to RNLI as part of Saturday’s coffee mornings efforts. Contact Kenny on 087 258 1608 for more information or if you’re interested in participating.

WHSC Rib Trip to the Saltee Islands, the “Galapagos of the South”

Around 40 members of WHSC travelled on nine ribs from Dunmore East on Friday to the Saltee Islands in South Wexford, which they’re renaming the Galapagos of the South due to the abundance of nature.

The islands are famous for hosting over 40 types of seabirds, and the group encountered seals, cormorants and puffins during their hugely successful day out. The group had a picnic on Great Saltee, and even the weather co-operated.

If you don’t have access to a rib, you can also take a ferry to the islands from Kilmore Quay for €30 per adult, €15 per child. But we reckon ribs are the way to go! Contact Kenny to join the WhatsApp for more details of upcoming rib trips on 087 2581608.

Update On Moorings

It’s great to see boats are beginning to arrive and the moorings beginning to fill up. Some boats are already at moorings but not at correct spot. Now is the time to shift before too many spaces are filled up by those who have paid for a mooring.

You can download a copy of the mooring plan here

Also please note that there are no more spaces available

Any questions please contact Rene on 087-2199570.

Thank You!

VHF COURSES – Register interest for an upcoming VHF course

This is a call to register your interest in scheduling a VHF course at WHSC
We have a number for names but need more participants to schedule a date.

Course requires 1 evening and 1 full day of training and is normally offered as follows:

Friday 18:30 – 21:30, Saturday 09:30 – 17:30 ( incl. exam)

if you are interested in the course, please contact Nicholas Walsh at walshnich@gmail.com or 086 256 9636.

ABOUT VHF COURSE

A course for anyone who owns a fixed or handheld marine VHF radio. A radio is an important piece of safety equipment on board and it is vital to understand the correct procedures. The Short Range Certificate is the minimum qualification required by law to control the operation of VHF and VHF Digital Selective Calling (DSC) equipment.

The aim of the course, is to provide trainees understanding (practical and theoretical) of VHF communication at sea. The course includes training, preparation and examination for VHF radio license, required by the Irish Government.

All skippers and power-boat/rescue-boat skippers must be licensed radio-operators. Crews on yachts and rescue craft are encouraged to learn and become licensed operators also. A VHF license is highly recommended pre-requisite for ISA ‘Safety Boat’ candidates.

Successful attainment of a licence and associated personal identity radio codes from the Department will allow the holder to fully benefit from DSC emergency functions of his / her modern VHF radio or EPIRB in sending pre-defined digital distress messages.

Venue: WHSC Club house.

Equipment: VHF handsets are provided but if you have your own set please bring it along.

Cost: 220 EUR/per person (incl. tuition, oral and written examination, Irish Government VHF License and DSC codes)
